Design In The Home

Jennifer Ini is an industrial designer living in Spain that designs and makes objects from scratch. In this article, she writes about her creative process, and the uniqueness of incorporating design in the home with distinctively made pieces.

As an interior decorator and industrial designer in OBJETO, I make objects that fuse the decorative with the functional, creating each pieces in a traditional way, paying special attention to every detail. For me, there is a magic to creating a design object from scratch fueled by a creative process that is very much present in the making of a fine art piece as well. There is gratification in knowing that someone out there enjoys a unique piece of work that you made, with no other copy anywhere else in the world.

Similarly to visual artworks, the artist and the buyer connect from the start and in many cases, almost without knowing it. It happens with works of art, where the buyer is absorbed by the history of the artist and in the world of furniture, where the creator must delve into the history of the client, capturing all their needs and tastes that they present.

As buyers, however, we found ourselves with a sea of choices and we must decide for one of a few of them. How to choose a design object? What is the piece, furniture or complement that we should buy and where should they be located?

To begin the spatial composition process, you must visualize the context where the piece will be displayed. Choose in advance a place where your art will be located and plan ahead. Avoid the overload of elements and generate a good dynamic between them.

When you start to decorate a space, in OBJETO we recommend putting together a sketch or an inspiration panel with colors and design lines to follow and try to respect it.

The furniture or artwork can shine by itself, but poorly located, wrong size or little functionality, can generate an effect contrary to the desired. To choose the furniture you have to be receptive at the time of purchase. It is important to point out that both in the furniture and in the artistic works the perception of them can vary by many factors and points of view.

So, take your time and evaluate the options, until the object transmits THAT which makes you just want to own it.
